چکیده

Sections of liver and spleen from six cases of secondary amyloidosis have been examined, by various improved histochemical methods, for acidic mucosubstances. The results indicate a complex in amyloid deposits of protein and sulphated mucopolysaccharides in which the principal substance is heparan sulphate with traces of chondroitin sulphates. Deposits also contain sialic acid. The results are compared with chemical analyses of the same tissues and isolated fibrils which confirm the presence of heparan sulphate, chondroitin sulphates, and a sialic acid containing protein.

Histochemical Investigation of the Mucosubstances in the Broiler Chicken Lachrymal Gland the First Nine Weeks after the Hatching

One hundred and eighty lachrymal glands obtained from 90 broiler chickens originating from a commercial stock, equal number from both genders at the age of 1, 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49 and 56 days were investigated. After the narcosis, decapitation and glandular preparation, using paraffin and frozen sections an evaluation of the gland polysaccharides was carried out following the conventional ...

Value of histochemical reactions for mucosubstances in the diagnosis of certain pathological conditions of the colon and rectum.

The histopathologist quite often faces diagnostic problems such as the recognition of early stages of disease, borderline cases, and morphologically atypical pictures which are not always solved by the usual laboratory techniques. Recent histochemical advances in identifying different classes of mucosubstances give more tools which can usefully be applied to solve some of these diagnostic diffi...

Microanatomy and Histochemistry of the Salt Glands of the Kentish Plover, Charadrius alexandrines (Aves, Charadriidae)

Problem statement: Histological and histochemical investigations on the salt glands of birds are very limited. The present study was performed to characterize the microanatomy and histochemistry of the salt glands of the Kentish plover (Charadrius alexandrines). Approach: Salt glands of the bird under study were fixed, dehydrated, cleared, impregnated and blocked out by paraffin wax. Paraffin s...

Deposition of Saa Protein and Fibrils in Mouse Brain following Chronic Inflammatory Mice

Prolonged injection of casein results in systemic amyloidosis in mice with impaired hepatic functions due to excessive serum amyloid A (SAA) fibril deposition in liver, spleen, and kidney. We have shown that systemic amyloidosis results in accumulation of SAA fibrils in the brain. The study carried out radiolabeling, Congo red stain, Immuno histochemical studies to source the SAA fibrils that a...

The amino acid sequence of a major nonimmunoglobulin component of some amyloid fibrils.

The complete amino acid sequence of a protein, acid soluble fraction, (ASF) which constitutes up to 50% of amyloid fibrils from a patient with familial Mediterranean fever has been obtained. Partial amino acid sequences of three other proteins from patients with secondary amyloidosis were identical in the regions studied except for an alanine-valine interchange in one. The ASF contains no cyste...
